Russian Post expands the geography of its mail items transit delivery to Europe. Now the operator will deliver mail from Japan to 20 EU countries. Among the seven new delivery countries are Greece (Athens), Bulgaria (Sofia), Slovenia (Ljubljana), Slovakia (Bratislava),Croatia (Zagreb), North Macedonia (Skopje) and Estonia (Tallinn).

On average, transportation of items from Vladivostok to Moscow takes 8-9 days, and delivery to the destination in Europe – 1-5 more days. From the city of Kawasaki in Japan shipments are transported by sea to Vladivostok, then Russian Post delivers them by train to Moscow. From there the operator transports parcels and letters to the largest European cities by road via Riga.

“Integration of Russian Post operational solutions into global supply chains does not just help to increase the revenue in the transit line of business – it also allows us to offer an almost uncontested and reliable solution even during restrictions. Over the course of cooperation with Japan Post we have delivered about 680 tons of shipments to Europe”, commented Georgy Alikoshvili, Deputy CEO for International Business, Russian Post.

Russian Post launched transit from Japan to Europe in 2018. Initially the operator delivered mail to 13 countries: Italy (Milan), Switzerland (Zurich), Poland (Warsaw), Belgium (Brussels), Norway (Oslo), Austria (Vienna), Romania (Bucharest), Finland (Helsinki), Hungary (Budapest), Czech Republic (Prague), Denmark (Copenhagen), Latvia(Riga) and Lithuania (Vilnius). Today Russian Post accounts for over 25% of all retail export shipments and 90% of all exporters’ deliveries to non-CIS countries. A significant part of exporters is made up of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) – for example, Russian crafts, young makers from Russian regions, jewellery, clothing and footwear manufacturers. The number of SMEs in Russian Post’s export is growing every year. At the end of the first six months of 2021, the volume of export shipments from SMEs grew by 23% compared to the same period of 2020.
